Introduction to Fashion Design and the Apparel Industry
Fashion Design Course
5 weeks- $100/ week
Ages 10-17
Maximum of 3 in each class. This class meets once per week.

This course is an extension of Sew Into It summer fashion camp. This course is for students who are passionate about creating apparel. Students learn the foundational skills of designing and constructing apparel. Students will sketch the fashion figure, draft a basic pattern, and sew a half-scale garment sample. Each week, students will learn about and discuss current topics in the apparel industry.

Creative Kids Course

This course is an expansion of the popular Sew Into It Creative Camp. Kids explore creativity and innovation through fashion and art. Activities include fashion upcycling, fabric dying, water marbling, hand embroidery, and more! Each week students learn practical ways to use their creativity to make a positive difference.
Fashion Design Course Information
To qualify for this course students must present sketches of their design ideas and complete the Sewing Machine Basics lesson. Following the lesson, students who complete the homework assignments may continue the fashion design course and purchase the design supplies. Students not continuing to the design course may continue with the beginner sewing lessons.

Fashion Design Course | 5 weeks.
Cost: $100/ week. Includes design and pattern drafting supplies
Students must be available for at least 4 weeks of the course to participate. The weeks must be paid in full by invoice by the given due date. Charter school students must have an approved purchase order by the due date.

Fabric types and terms
Reading the pattern
Pattern drafting terms

Assemble a binder with basic pattern drafting terms, definitions, and examples
Week 2
Flat patternmaking basics

Draft basic patterns and add to the binder
Week 3
Fashion sketching

Students will sketch designs for their final project
Week 4 and 5
Sewing the sample
Using the Sewing Machine Basics skills and techniques, students will choose one design to draft and sew.
FAQs
What’s the difference between private and group lessons?
Private lessons are taught 1:1 with the student and the teacher. A group lesson or class has up to 3 students in attendance. Private group lessons include "Mom and me", sibling, and groups of freinds. Group classes are specifc classes where up 3 students are enrolled. Group classes are available for homeschool schudents, adult beginnner sewing students, adult alteration students, fashion program and college students, kids lessons, and more.

I have no sewing experience. Can I still join?
Yes. My signature Beginner Sewing Lesson series is designed for sewing newbies. Check out the Beginner Sewing Lessons here.
Do I need a sewing machine?
Yes. It is best for students to learn with their personal sewing machine.
What is a good sewing machine for beginners?
I suggest the Brother LX3817. Learn more about that machine here.
Do I need to bring sewing supplies?
No, unless you want to. Basic sewing supplies and fabrics are included with lessons.
Do you teach adults?
Yes.
